SYNERGEN Health recognizes the immense contributions that women make to our industry. In light of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, we want to take a moment to highlight women’s vital role in driving innovation, improving health outcomes, and advancing the IT field. This year, the initiative’s focus is Embrace Equity, aiming to get the world talking about why equal opportunities are not enough. People start from different places, therefore true inclusion and belonging require equitable action.
Women have long been underrepresented in tech, and the healthcare technology industry is no exception. However, this is changing. More and more women are pursuing careers in IT, bringing their skills and expertise to the forefront of healthcare technology innovation. At SYNERGEN Health, we are proud to employ many talented and skilled women who are leaders in their fields.
From customer support to software engineering, our female team members bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our company and play an integral role in our success. In fact, SYNERGEN Health is proud to have a gender balance of 60% female to male, with women in the company holding 37% of managerial positions. These talented women hold key decisive roles within the organization, which continue to contribute to the company’s success.
“As a woman in healthcare technology, diversity is key to unlocking innovation and progress. We must foster an environment that values and empowers women to drive change and advance the industry forward.”
– Gillian De Silva, Assistant General Manager
Women of color have historically faced even greater barriers in accessing leadership roles in healthcare technology. However, we are committed to supporting the professional development of all women, regardless of race or background. We strive to create an inclusive and supportive work environment that empowers all our employees to succeed and grow. We believe that our diversity is our strength, and we are committed to fostering an environment where we can better meet our customers’ needs. By leveraging the unique perspectives and talents of the women at SYNERGEN, we can better meet our customer’s needs and drive innovation in the healthcare industry.
“As a woman in healthcare technology, I take pride in leveraging my skills and expertise to revolutionize care and drive better outcomes. Women bring unique perspectives and solutions; we must have a voice in this field.”
– Upeka Hettiarachchi, Client Relations Manager
This year, SYNERGEN Health celebrated International Women’s Day at our Global Delivery Center in Colombo, Sri Lanka with a panel featuring several of our female leaders to discuss their experiences and career achievements along with renowned HR innovation professional Chandi Dharmaratne. After kicking off her career in New York City and spending over a decade in the United States, Dharmaratne came back to Sri Lanka and joined MAS Holdings, where she was later responsible for MAS’ group learning and development function. In 2013, Dharmaratne joined a leading IT company as the Head of HR for the Sri Lanka region and is currently serving as the Vice President of HR for the company.
Dharmaratne is passionate about developing employability skills amongst the youth of Sri Lanka as well as encouraging IT industry growth and brain gain. She has been recognized by Sri Lanka’s business community with a myriad of awards and has represented numerous boards and councils, currently serving as Chairperson of Lankan Angel Network, which empowers entrepreneurs and builds a viable start-up ecosystem in Sri Lanka. Further, Dharmaratne has been involved in multiple initiatives over the years, including being a member of the Steering Committee on People Development for the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (2022/23) and being invited by the ICTA to serve on the expert committee on formulation of Digital Maturity Model for GoSL (2021).
SYNERGEN strives to acknowledge the obstacles that women have faced in the past and recognizes the work that still needs to be done to ensure that all women are fully represented in IT roles. We believe that by promoting diversity and inclusivity in healthcare technology, we can create a better future for everyone. We are proud to support the growth and development of women in our company and across the industry, and we look forward to continuing to work towards a more equitable and inclusive future.
“Being a woman in tech can be a tough journey, but it’s also an opportunity to break down barriers and create new possibilities. I want to inspire the next generation of women to succeed and lead in this dynamic field.”
– Anuradha Paranavithane, Senior Operations Manager
