More than two dozen North Texas companies within the health sector made this year’s Inc. 5000 list, another sign of the industry’s economic standing in the region.
The annual list ranks companies who submit their information by three-year revenue growth rate, and the rates get pretty silly for some of the top dogs. The fastest growing company on the list is Madison, Wisconsin-based logistics company SwanLeap, which grew by 75,661 percent over the last three years to reach 2017 revenue of $99 million.
Rankings based purely on growth percentage inherently favor smaller organizations. No. 1 among DFW companies within the health sector, for instance, is ExcelHealth, a Southlake-based firm that develops muscle stimulators. ExcelHealth grew by 2,652 percent over the last three years, putting it at a 2017 revenue of $4.5 million and No. 160 on the Inc. 5000.
It’s hard to judge that acceleration against companies like Dallas-based medical services provider Paragon Healthcare, which grew by 160 percent—good enough for No. 2,637 on the list—to $243.9 million.
Regardless, the list acts as a barometer for movers and shakers. And the best part: We get a sense of the scale. To make the list, you have to give up the goods. Revenue figures that many of these private companies otherwise wouldn’t share become public.
