SYNERGEN Health Partners with Wilpattu National Park’s Reforestation Project in Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day
DALLAS – April 27, 2020 – SYNERGEN Health, a leader in technology and data-driven revenue cycle optimization solutions for health care organizations, partnered with Wilpattu National Park to plant 295 trees in celebration of the upcoming 50th anniversary of Earth Day. In early March, SYNERGEN Health joined the Sri Lankan Army and Manusath Derana, a Sri Lankan media channel, to plant the trees as part of the Wilpattu Reforestation Project.
“Aligning our core values with social and environmental responsibility is paramount in today’s complex and changing world,” stated Mel Gunawardena, managing partner, SYNERGEN Health. “We believe this begins with an engaged leadership team, and we’re proud to empower our employees to make a positive difference while strengthening our company from the ground up.”
With nearly 106 lakes and tanks spread throughout the park, Wilpattu National Park is one of the largest and oldest national parks in Sri Lanka. The area has been recognized as a wetland of international importance by the Ramsar Convention and is home to a wide range of resident and migrant wildlife species – including several threatened species such as elephants, sloth bears, water buffalo, Sāmbhar, and spotted deer. It is also among the top national parks known for its leopard population, as a sample of 49 individual leopards were photo-captured in a 2019 surveyed area.
The tree planting initiative involved more than 100 SYNERGEN Health employees within the Silavathurai area adjoining the Wilpattu National Park. Additionally, SYNERGEN Health donated funds to support the infrastructure to maintain the tree plots and gifted school supplies to students at the local school in Silavathurai.
There has been a drastic reduction in wildlife from deforestation over the years, resulting in an imbalance in the ecosystem that has impacted ground water resources, irregularities in climate and local temperatures.
“We hold ourselves to the highest standards when it comes to our own corporate responsibility,” continued Gunawardena.
SYNERGEN Health actively works on reducing the carbon footprint and helping the environment by eliminating the need for printing and mailing millions of paper claims and patient statements annually by offering innovative revenue cycle transformation solutions and services to its clients.
“It’s important to SYNERGEN Health that we continually look within and examine our own company’s sustainability. From there we can better recognize what we can do externally to make a more positive impact on our clients, our communities and our employees,” said Duminda Gunawardena, Managing Partner, SYNERGEN Health.
Earth Day is a celebration of environmental awareness and was created to highlight the intrinsic value and fragility of Earth, and to encourage the protection of its precious resources. This year marked the 50th anniversary of the annual celebration of Earth Day on April 22.
